Very nice

I'm not too familiar with Japanese art, but you stayed faithful. It seems to me that the top portion has more detail than the bottom of the man. Something about the padding on the legs is lacking. In the zoom-in, I can see that there's a layering issue: scarf thingie is supposed to be in front of everything, but the beard is a little over it. Also, the eyes are very anime-ish. They look fine, but I can't tell if you were going for realism or something stylish. The sword looks lacking, too. Its colour scheme is too similar to the scarf and looks like cardboard.

The background, though simple, does the job with the traditional artwork. The hair looks really great; good job with the different-coloured hairs.

The overall picture looks really good, but it's just a bit simple in some areas compared to others. Jeep up the good work.

I see it

It's not just the obvious features. It's also the stance. It's got this flowy thing going on. Anyway, yea, this looks like a pretty good character. Something about the clothes clashes with the creature. The clothes are oriental monk-type thing and the creature is mechanical/abstract. Also, the feet are too different from the rest of it. Maybe have the toes be blocky or rounder instead of pointy.

The outlining you did to differentiate depth doesn't work much because the lines get too dark and maybe the sketch is too simple.

Good work.

Cenaf responds:

thanks for the critique. Gives some material to think about.
The lines were differentiated mostly to separate main shapes from details, depth is showed only in hands.

Hmm

The craftsmanship of this, like your other work, is excellent. Top-notch drawing, effects, with the textures and all the other things. What bothers me with this one is the actual content matter. Sonic is okay, but the way you drew him here looks odd. It's like a mixture of smooth cartoon drawing and realistic animal combined. You do know that the yellow-y parts of him are also fur, right? And the way his hair just drops down as opposed to up in a razor thingy looks bad, too. The hair on his head has some glimmer on it that just look strange, too. It doesn't even look like his head is attached to the body; there's no flow of his structure. The head's too big, too. His right (our left) arm looks like a 2D drawing compared to the other one that's coated in sweet effects. This whole thing just needs reworking.

JoshSummana responds:

Thanks for the critique.

The reason I did part of his face smoother than the actual hair was to emphasise the roughness of it. I am aware that it is fur of course. I originally did it furry but he just looked too 'monster-ish' rather than his normal self.
Regarding his hair spikes... if you look at the 3D versions of Sonic etc etc... they DO slope downwards. They only stick straight out when he is running (which obviously he isn't here). Regarding his head size - this is the proportion the original Sonic was drawn at. I had to double check myself just because it felt strange. His head is about the same height as his body. http://goo.gl/3lTZV take a look.

Noice

This was funnier than usual. I think it'd be a good one to animate with the proper timing. The bottom's info is a bit obnoxious cutting into the panel. Can you expand the white bar and fit them in there?

Clever

It's alright, but I can tell it was a quick little joke. The colouring and shading are simplistic. Looks brutal/freaky enough, so good job on that. Not sure about the mouth, though. Maybe a different-looking bite might look better. Some scenery might also help depending on what it is. Her arms look too long. Some blood and such on her and the child would look good.

mohawkade responds:

The lack of scenery and bad anatomy is a nod to the original painting... Originally I was going to give saturn a wig and a dress, but I didn't think anyone would get the joke. So I went the other way around.

Umm

That's not a boy. Those features are literally girl features. Everything about the face screams "female". Doesn't look Asian or anime at all, either.

Anyhoo, it looks good. It's got that oriental paint swoosh going on. Very realistic. The scar across the nose looks good, but it doesn't groove with the nose. Excellent shading and the hair looks fab.

Okay

It's got that consistent art styles from your other drawings. You may want to smooth out some edges here and there. Also, work on your shading. The neck has the black patch, but her side has hatching style.

i appreciate the critiques man, im always looking to improve so thanks !

Going and going and going...

Ah, but there is someone missing! The "X" from Megaman Zero! I don't remember if he was real or not, but you still included plenty of NPCs, so he should've been in there, too. Anyway, good job on this. It's great to see all the iterations throughout the years in one consistent image. Even though each Megaman has his own art style, you style managed to mostly capture it and sorta combine them into one. I dunno. The thing's stylish. I see that you made the main characters stand out with an outline. The bottom X ones look a bit too modern anime-ish, though.

Regardless, the over-all thing is a treat. Good job.

Wavechan responds:

omg! Actually, I did almost sketch X from Mega Man Zero in. XD I really wanted to do his Cyber-Elf version but I just couldn't find any reference for him :( Not even in the official artbooks!

Not bad

I had to double-take, but I recognised them. Good show. You did a pretty fair job. They look like cel-shaded 3D models, so good with that if that's what you were after. The hands don't look very good though; the line art isn't very solid-looking. Colouring is excellent and accurate, but the shading in some places needs work. Their mouths look weird, though, especially the fishy woman's. I think it's just the positioning. Also, their shoulders look like they're hunched up for some reason. Not sure what's up with that. The background is simple, but does the job of being a background and not taking the focus away from the characters.

I advise you work more on line art and anatomy some more.

My mom says I'm handsome.
